10 June REVIEW: HOME vs College Rifles Shooters
Your Mighty Penguins (tm) finally got to play at home (in the Igloo!) at Lloyd Elsmore Park today against a solid College Rifles Shooters team. The sun was shining, the temperature was decidedly, fortunately, not sub antarctic and some pretty decent footy got played.
The Penguins took a little while to get in the game - with the Shooters living up to their name and firing right from the kickoff. Your heroes started to turn the tide when were able to put some pressure on the Shooters ball runners, with Josh, J-Dub and Sean all getting stuck in and moving "up" hard and fast on the tap.
So after a slow start, the Mighty Penguin Big Orange and Green Forward Machine (tm) started revving up. Leading the way were Michael and Mason - cleaning Shooters out of the way time and time again, and Joey working hard to support them when the Machine cleared the path. Two way player Jake then showed he wears his undies outside his jeans, by Superman-ing out the Shooters forwards silly enough to try and get the ball, and putting in a solid shift to earn our "Tackler of the Day" award.
Our Mighty Penguins back line weren't to be outshone - working exceptionally hard on defence to shut down the Shooters big, fast backs. Riley and Jack are a halves combination in the making, but aren't afraid to get across and knock a dude into touch, to the ground, hold him up and generally make his life more difficult.
And a little further out, the magic feet, Knight Rider turbo boost acceleration (google it kids!) and hard running support play of Noah, Maddox and (in a Player of the Day performance) Drew showed what the Penguins can do when we get our guys some space.
So while the result might not have quite gone our way, your Heroes showed a lot of ticker, a lot of fight, and a lot of will. A lot of good stuff to build on as we look forward to the weeks to come. Well done you Mighty Penguins!
WE. ARE. PENNNNGUUUUIIIIIINNNNNNSSSSS!!!
By the way, our namesake NHL Ice Hocky team - the Pittsburgh Penguins - are at the time of writing leading the best of 7 Stanley Cup Finals series 3 - 2. Here's sending them all our Pakuranga Penguins support to make it back to back championships!!!
